LA PARABOLE DES LOCATAIRES
1 Jésus commença alors à leur parler en paraboles : « Un homme planta une vigne. Il l'entoura d'un mur, creusa une fosse pour le pressoir et construisit une tour de guet. Puis il loua le vignoble à des agriculteurs et déménagea ailleurs.
2 Au moment de la récolte, il envoya un serviteur vers les vignerons pour recueillir auprès d'eux une partie des fruits de la vigne.
3 Mais ils l'ont saisi, l'ont battu et l'ont renvoyé les mains vides.
4 Puis il leur envoya un autre serviteur ; ils ont frappé cet homme à la tête et l'ont traité honteusement.
5 Il en envoya encore un autre, et celui-là, ils le tuèrent. Il en envoya beaucoup d’autres ; Ils ont battu certains d'entre eux, tué d'autres.
6 « Il lui restait un fils à envoyer, qu'il aimait. Il l’envoya le dernier en disant : « Ils respecteront mon fils. »
7 « Mais les vignerons se dirent entre eux : « Celui-ci est l'héritier. Venez, tuons-le, et l’héritage sera à nous.
8 Alors ils le prirent, le tuèrent et le jetèrent hors de la vigne.
9 « Que fera donc le propriétaire de la vigne ? Il viendra tuer ces vignerons et donner la vigne à d'autres.

« ‘La pierre rejetée par les bâtisseurs est devenue la pierre angulaire ;
11 C’est l’Éternel qui a fait cela, et cela est merveilleux à nos yeux’ ?
12 Alors les principaux sacrificateurs, les docteurs de la loi et les anciens cherchèrent un moyen de l'arrêter, car ils savaient qu'il avait dit la parabole contre eux. Mais ils avaient peur de la foule ; alors ils le quittèrent et s'en allèrent.
PAYER L'IMPÔT IMPÉRIAL À CÉSAR
13 Plus tard, ils envoyèrent des pharisiens et des hérodiens vers Jésus pour le surprendre dans ses paroles.
14 Ils s'approchèrent et lui dirent : « Maître, nous savons que tu es un homme intègre. Vous n’êtes pas influencé par les autres, parce que vous ne prêtez aucune attention à qui ils sont ; mais vous enseignez la voie de Dieu selon la vérité. Est-il juste de payer l'impôt impérial à César ou non ?
15 Devons-nous payer ou non ?
Mais Jésus connaissait leur hypocrisie. "Pourquoi essaies-tu de me piéger?" il a demandé. "Apportez-moi un denier et laissez-moi le regarder."
16 Ils apportèrent la pièce de monnaie et il leur demanda : « À qui est cette image ? Et quelle inscription ?
« César », ont-ils répondu.
17 Alors Jésus leur dit : « Rendez à César ce qui est à César et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu. »
Et ils ont été étonnés de lui.
LE MARIAGE À LA RÉSURRECTION
18 Alors les sadducéens, qui disent qu'il n'y a pas de résurrection, vinrent lui poser une question.
19 « Maître, dirent-ils, Moïse a écrit pour nous que si le frère d'un homme meurt et laisse une femme mais pas d'enfants, l'homme doit épouser la veuve et donner une descendance à son frère.
20 Or, il y avait sept frères. Le premier s'est marié et est décédé sans laisser d'enfants.
21 Le second épousa la veuve, mais il mourut aussi sans laisser d'enfant. C'était la même chose avec le troisième.
22 En fait, aucun des sept n’a laissé d’enfants. Finalement, la femme est morte aussi.
23 À la résurrection, de qui sera-t-elle la femme, puisque les sept l'ont épousée ?
24 Jésus répondit : « N'êtes-vous pas dans l'erreur parce que vous ne connaissez pas les Écritures ni la puissance de Dieu ?
25 Quand les morts ressusciteront, ils ne se marieront ni ne seront donnés en mariage ; ils seront comme les anges du ciel.
26 Maintenant, à propos des morts ressuscités, n'avez-vous pas lu dans le livre de Moïse, dans le récit du buisson ardent, comment Dieu lui dit : « Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob. » ?
27 Il n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants. Vous vous trompez lourdement !
LE PLUS GRAND COMMANDEMENT
28 Un des docteurs de la loi vint et les entendit débattre. Remarquant que Jésus leur avait donné une bonne réponse, il lui demanda : « De tous les commandements, lequel est le plus important ?
29 « Le plus important, répondit Jésus, est celui-ci : Écoute, Israël : Le Seigneur notre Dieu, le Seigneur est un.
30 Aime le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme, de toute ta pensée et de toutes tes forces.
31 La seconde est celle-ci : « Aime ton prochain comme toi-même. » Il n’y a pas de commandement plus grand que ceux-ci.
32 «Bien dit, professeur», répondit l'homme. « Vous avez raison de dire que Dieu est un et qu’il n’y en a pas d’autre que lui.
33 L'aimer de tout son cœur, de toute son intelligence et de toute sa force, et aimer son prochain comme soi-même est plus important que tous les holocaustes et tous les sacrifices.
34 Jésus, voyant qu'il avait répondu avec sagesse, lui dit : « Tu n'es pas loin du royaume de Dieu. » Et à partir de ce moment-là, plus personne n’osa lui poser de questions.
DE QUI EST LE FILS LE MESSIE ?
35 Alors que Jésus enseignait dans les parvis du temple, il demanda : « Pourquoi les docteurs de la loi disent-ils que le Messie est le fils de David ?
36 David lui-même, parlant par le Saint-Esprit, déclara :
« Le Seigneur dit à mon Seigneur :
"Asseyez-vous à ma droite jusqu'à ce que je mette vos ennemis sous vos pieds."
37 David lui-même l'appelle Seigneur. Comment donc pourrait-il être son fils ?
La foule nombreuse l’écoutait avec délice.
AVERTISSEMENT CONTRE LES PROFESSEURS DE DROIT
38 Pendant qu'il enseignait, Jésus dit : « Prenez garde aux docteurs de la loi. Ils aiment se promener en robes fluides et être accueillis avec respect sur les marchés,
39 et ils occuperont les places les plus importantes dans les synagogues et les places d'honneur dans les banquets.
40 Ils dévorent les maisons des veuves et, pour se donner en spectacle, font de longues prières. Ces hommes seront punis très sévèrement.
L'OFFRE DE LA VEUVE
41 Jésus s'assit en face du lieu où l'on déposait les offrandes et regarda la foule mettre son argent dans le trésor du temple. De nombreux riches ont investi de grosses sommes.
42 Mais une pauvre veuve est venue et a déposé deux très petites pièces de cuivre, qui ne valaient que quelques centimes.
43 Appelant ses disciples, Jésus leur dit : « En vérité, je vous le dis, cette pauvre veuve a mis plus au trésor que toutes les autres.
44 Ils ont tous donné de leurs richesses ; mais elle, de sa pauvreté, a tout investi, tout ce dont elle avait pour vivre.
THE PARABLE OF THE TENANTS
1 Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully.
5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.
6 “He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’
7 “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’
8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
9 “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.
10 Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture:
“‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.
PAYING THE IMPERIAL TAX TO CAESAR
13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.
14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?
15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”
But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”
16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”
And they were amazed at him.
MARRIAGE AT THE RESURRECTION
18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.
19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.
20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children.
21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third.
22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too.
23 At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.
33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.
WHOSE SON IS THE MESSIAH?
35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?
36 David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’
37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
The large crowd listened to him with delight.
WARNING AGAINST THE TEACHERS OF THE LAW
38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
THE WIDOW’S OFFERING
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.
44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
1 በምሳሌም ይነግራቸው ጀመር። አንድ ሰው የወይን አትክልት ተከለ፥ ቅጥርም ቀጠረለት፥ መጥመቂያም ማሰለት፥ ግንብም ሠራና ለገበሬዎች አከራይቶ ወደ ሌላ አገር ሄደ።
2 በጊዜውም ከወይን አትክልት ፍሬ ከገበሬዎቹ እንዲቀበል አንድ ባሪያ ወደ ገበሬዎቹ ላከ፤
3 ይዘውም ደበደቡት ባዶውንም ሰደዱት።
4 ዳግመኛም ሌላውን ባሪያ ወደ እነርሱ ላከ እርሱንም ወግረው ራሱን አቈሰሉት አዋርደውም ሰደዱት።
5 ሌላውንም ላከ፤ እርሱንም ገደሉት፥ ከሌሎችም ከብዙዎች አንዳንዱን ደበደቡ አንዳንዱንም ገደሉ።
6 የሚወደው አንድ ልጅ ገና ነበረው፤ ልጄንስ ያፍሩታል ብሎ እርሱን ከሁሉ በኋላ ወደ እነርሱ ላከ።
7 እነዚያ ገበሬዎች ግን እርስ በርሳቸው። ወራሹ ይህ ነው፤ ኑ፥ እንግደለው፥ ርስቱም ለኛ ይሆናል ተባባሉ።
8 ይዘውም ገደሉት፥ ከወይኑም አትክልት ወደ ውጭ ጣሉት።
9 እንግዲህ የወይኑ አትክልት ጌታ ምን ያደርጋል? ይመጣል ገበሬዎቹንም ያጠፋል፥ የወይኑንም አትክልት ለሌሎች ይሰጣል።
10 ግንበኞች የናቁት ድንጋይ እርሱ የማዕዘን ራስ ሆነ፤ ይህም ከጌታ ዘንድ ሆነ፥ ለዓይኖቻችንም ድንቅ ነው። የሚለውን ይህን መጽሐፍ አላነበባችሁምን?
11-12 ምሳሌውንም ስለ እነርሱ እንደ ተናገረ አውቀዋልና ሊይዙት ፈለጉ፥ ነገር ግን ሕዝቡን ፈሩ። ትተውትም ሄዱ።
13 በንግግርም ሊያጠምዱት ከፈሪሳውያንና ከሄሮድስ ወገን የሆኑትን ወደ እርሱ ላኩ።
14 መጥተውም። መምህር ሆይ፥ የሰውን ፊት ሳትመለከት በእውነት የእግዚአብሔር መንገድ ታስተምራለህና እውነተኛ እንደ ሆንህ ለማንምም እንዳታደላ እናውቃለን፤ ለቄሣር ግብር መስጠት ተፈቅዶአልን ወይስ አልተፈቀደም? እንስጥን ወይስ አንስጥ? አሉት።
15 እርሱ ግን ግብዝነታቸውን አውቆ። ለምን ትፈትኑኛላችሁ? አየው ዘንድ አንድ ዲናር አምጡልኝ አላቸው።
16 እነርሱም አመጡለት። ይህች መልክ ጽሕፈቲቱስ የማን ናት? አላቸው፤ እነርሱም። የቄሣር ናት አሉት።
17 ኢየሱስም መልሶ። የቄሣርን ለቄሣር የእግዚአብሔርንም ለእግዚአብሔር አስረክቡ አላቸው። በእርሱም ተደነቁ።
18 ትንሣኤ ሙታን የለም የሚሉ ሰዱቃውያን ወደ እርሱ መጥተው ጠየቁት እንዲህም አሉት።
19 መምህር ሆይ፥ ሙሴ። የአንድ ሰው ወንድም ሚስቱን ትቶ ልጅ ሳያስቀር ቢሞት፥ ወንድሙ ሚስቱን አግብቶ ለወንድሙ ዘር ይተካ ብሎ ጻፈልን።
20 ሰባት ወንድማማቾች ነበሩ፤ ፊተኛውም ሚስት አግብቶ ዘር ሳያስቀር ሞተ፤
21 ሁለተኛውም አገባት፥ ዘርም ሳይተው ሞተ፤ ሦስተኛውም እንዲሁ፤
22 ሰባቱም አገቡአት፥ ዘርም አላስቀሩም። ከሁሉም በኋላ ሴቲቱ ደግሞ ሞተች።
23 ሰባቱ አግብተዋታልና በትንሣኤ ቀን ሲነሡ ከእነርሱ ለማናቸው ሚስት ትሆናለች?
24 ኢየሱስም መልሶ እንዲህ አላቸው። መጻሕፍትንና የእግዚአብሔርን ኃይል አታውቁምና ስለዚህ የምትስቱ አይደለምን?
25 ከሙታንስ ሲነሡ በሰማያት እንዳሉ መላእክት ይሆናሉ እንጂ አያገቡም፥ አይጋቡምም።
26 ስለ ሙታን ግን እንዲነሡ እግዚአብሔር። እኔ የአብርሃም አምላክ የይስሐቅም አምላክ የያዕቆብም አምላክ ነኝ እንዳለው በሙሴ መጽሐፍ በቍጥቋጦው ዘንድ የተጻፈውን አላነበባችሁምን?
27 የሕያዋን አምላክ ነው እንጂ የሙታን አይደለም። እንግዲህ እጅግ ትስታላችሁ።
28 ከጻፎችም አንዱ ቀርቦ ሲከራከሩ ሰማና መልካም አድርጎ እንደ መለሰላቸው አስተውሎ። ከሁሉ ፊተኛይቱ ትእዛዝ ማናቸይቱ ናት? ብሎ ጠየቀው።
29 ኢየሱስም መልሶ እንዲህ አለው። ከትእዛዛቱ ሁሉ ፊተኛይቱ። እስራኤል ሆይ፥ ስማ፤ ጌታ አምላካችን አንድ ጌታ ነው፥
30 አንተም በፍጹም ልብህ በፍጹምም ነፍስህ በፍጹምም አሳብህ በፍጹምም ኃይልህ ጌታ አምላክህን ውደድ የምትል ናት። ፊተኛይቱ ትእዛዝ ይህች ናት።
31 ሁለተኛይቱም። ባልንጀራህን እንደ ራስህ ውደድ የምትል እርስዋን የምትመስል ይህች ናት። ከእነዚህ የምትበልጥ ሌላ ትእዛዝ የለችም።
32 ጻፊውም። መልካም ነው፥ መምህር ሆይ፤ አንድ ነው ከእርሱም በቀር ሌላ የለም ብለህ በእውነት ተናገርህ፤
33 በፍጹም ልብ በፍጹም አእምሮም በፍጹም ነፍስም በፍጹም ኃይልም እርሱን መውደድ፥ ባልንጀራንም እንደ ራስ መውደድ በሙሉ ከሚቃጠል መሥዋዕትና ከሌላው መሥዋዕት ሁሉ የሚበልጥ ነው አለው።
34 ኢየሱስም በአእምሮ እንደ መለሰ አይቶ። አንተ ከእግዚአብሔር መንግሥት የራቅህ አይደለህም አለው። ከዚህም በኋላ ማንም ሊጠይቀው አልደፈረም።
35 ኢየሱስም በመቅደስ ሲያስተምር መልሶ እንዲህ አለ። ጻፎች ክርስቶስ የዳዊት ልጅ ነው እንዴት ይላሉ?
36 ዳዊት ራሱ በመንፈስ ቅዱስ። ጌታ ጌታዬን። ጠላቶችህን የእግርህ መረገጫ እስካደርግልህ ድረስ በቀኜ ተቀመጥ አለው አለ።
37 ዳዊትም ራሱ ጌታ አለው፤ እንዴትስ ልጁ ይሆናል? ብዙ ሕዝብም በደስታ ይሰሙት ነበር።
38 ሲያስተምርም እንዲህ አለ። ረጃጅም ልብስ ለብሰው መዞርን፥ በገበያም ሰላምታን፥ በምኵራብም የከበሬታን ወንበር፥ በግብርም የከበሬታን ስፍራ ከሚወዱ ከጻፎች ተጠበቁ፤
39-40 የመበለቶችን ቤት የሚበሉ ጸሎታቸውንም በማስረዘም የሚያመካኙ እነዚህ የባሰ ፍርድ ይቀበላሉ።
41 ኢየሱስም በመዝገብ አንጻር ተቀምጦ ሕዝቡ በመዝገብ ውስጥ ገንዘብ እንዴት እንዲጥሉ ያይ ነበር፤ ብዙ ባለ ጠጎችም ብዙ ይጥሉ ነበር፤
42 አንዲትም ድሀ መበለት መጥታ አንድ ሳንቲም የሚያህሉ ሁለት ናስ ጣለች።
43 ደቀ መዛሙርቱንም ጠርቶ። እውነት እላችኋለሁ፥ በመዝገብ ውስጥ ከሚጥሉት ሁሉ ይልቅ ይህች ድሀ መበለት አብልጣ ጣለች፤
44 ሁሉ ከትርፋቸው ጥለዋልና፥ ይህች ግን ከጕድለትዋ የነበራትን ሁሉ ትዳርዋን ሁሉ ጣለች አላቸው።

12 የከተማው ሽማግሌዎች ይልካሉ፥ ከተማጠነበትም ከተማ ይነጥቁታል፥ እንዲሞትም በደም ተበቃዩ እጅ አሳልፈው ይሰጡታል።
13 ዓይንህ አትራራለት፤ ነገር ግን መልካም ይሆንልህ ዘንድ ንጹሑን ደም ከእስራኤል ታስወግዳለህ።
14 አምላክህ እግዚአብሔር ትወርሳት ዘንድ በሚሰጥህ ምድር በምትወርሳት ርስትህ የቀደሙ ሰዎች የተከሉትን የባልንጀራህን የድንበር ምልክት አትንቀል።
15 ስለ በደል ሁሉ፥ ክፉ በማድረግም ስለ ሠራት ኃጢአት ሁሉ በማንም ላይ አንድ ምስክር አይቁም፤ በሁለት ምስክሮች ወይም በሦስት ምስክሮች አፍ ነገር ሁሉ ይጸናል።
16 በዓመፃ ይከስሰው ዘንድ በሰው ላይ ሐሰተኛ ምስክር ቢቆም፥
17 ሁለቱ ጠበኞች በእግዚአብሔር ፊት በካህናቱና በዚያ ዘመን በሚፈርዱ ፈራጆች ፊት ይቆማሉ፤
18 ፈራጆቹም አጥብቀው ይመረምራሉ፤ ያም ምስክር ሐሰተኛ ምስክር ሆኖ በወንድሙ ላይ በሐሰት ተናግሮ ቢገኝ፥
19 በወንድሙ ላይ ያደርገው ዘንድ ያሰበውን በእርሱ ላይ ትመልሱበታላችሁ፤ እንዲሁም ከአንተ መካከል ክፋቱን ታስወግዳለህ።
20 የቀሩትም ሰምተው ይፈራሉ፥ እንደዚህ ያለውንም ክፋት ከመካከልህ ከእንግዲህ ወዲህ ደግሞ አያደርጉም።
21 ዓይንህም አትራራለት፤ ነፍስ በነፍስ፥ ዓይን በዓይን፥ ጥርስ በጥርስ፥ እጅ በእጅ፥ እግር በእግር፥ ይመለሳል።
CRIMINAL LAWS
1 The Lord your God will destroy all the nations that are living in the land that he’s giving you. You will force them out and live in their cities and houses.
2 When all this is done, set aside three cities in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
3 Provide a route to each of these cities and divide the land that the Lord your God is giving you into three regions. Whoever kills someone may run to one of these cities.
4 A person who unintentionally kills someone he never hated in the past may run to one of these cities to save his life.
5 Suppose two people go into the woods to cut wood. As one of them swings the ax to cut down a tree, the head flies off the handle, hits, and kills the other person. The one who accidentally killed the other person may run to one of these cities and save his life.
6 Otherwise, in a rage the relative who has the authority to avenge the death will pursue him. If the place is too far away, the relative may catch up with him and take his life even though he didn’t deserve the death penalty, because in the past he never hated the person he killed.
7 This is why I’m commanding you to set aside three cities for yourselves.
8 The Lord your God may expand your country’s borders as he promised your ancestors with an oath. He may give you the whole land he promised to give them.
9 He may do this because you faithfully obey all these commands I am now giving you—to love the Lord your God and follow his directions as long as you live. If this happens, you may add three more cities of refuge to these three.
10 That way, innocent people won’t be killed in the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you won’t be guilty of murder.
11 Suppose someone hates another person, waits in ambush for him, attacks him, takes his life, and runs to one of these cities.
12 If someone does this, the leaders of your city must send for that person. They must take him from that city and hand him over to the relative who has the authority to avenge the death. He must die.
13 They must have no pity on him. The guilt of murdering an innocent person must be removed from Israel. Then things will go well for Israel.
14 Never move your neighbor’s original boundary marker on any property in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
15 One witness is never enough to convict someone of a crime, offense, or sin he may have committed. Cases must be settled based on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
16 This is what you must do whenever a witness takes the stand to accuse a person falsely of a crime.
17 The two people involved must stand in the Lord’s presence, in front of the priests and judges who are serving at that time.
18 The judges must make a thorough investigation. If it is found that the witness lied when he testified against the other Israelite,
19 then do to him what he planned to do to the other person. You must get rid of this evil.
20 When the rest of the people hear about this, they will be afraid. Never again will such an evil thing be done among you.
21 Have no pity on him: ⌞Take⌟ a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, and a foot for a foot.
