There was a man and one day he went on a journey. When he was beside a river he met a snake. The snake asked him to carry him across the river.
The man said, “How can I?”
“Put me on your back,” said the snake.
The man was frightened, but he did so.
On the other side he said, “Now get down from my back.”
The snake said, “No, let’s go to court.”
The man agreed.
The judge was a hyena. He listened to their case. The hyena was scared of the snake.
“I can’t make a decision. Go to the monkey.”
They went to the monkey and told the case and the monkey said, “OK, let me first go into a tree.”
They said, “OK.”
The monkey said, “You must both be on the ground.”
So the snake fell down to the ground.
The monkey said to the man, “You have a knife in your hand and a snake is at your feet.”
The man understood and he killed the snake.

L'HOMME ET LE SERPENT - D'un auteur inconnu
Il y avait un homme et un jour il partit en voyage. Alors qu'il se trouvait au bord d'une rivière, il rencontra un serpent. Le serpent lui demanda de le porter de l'autre côté de la rivière.
L'homme a dit : « Comment puis-je ?
"Mette-moi sur ton dos", dit le serpent.
L'homme avait peur, mais il l'a fait.
De l’autre côté, il a dit : « Maintenant, lâche-moi. »
Le serpent dit : « Non, allons au tribunal. »
L'homme accepta.
Le juge était une hyène. Il a écouté leur cas. La hyène avait peur du serpent.
« Je n’arrive pas à prendre une décision. Allez voir le singe.
Ils sont allés voir le singe et lui ont raconté l'affaire et le singe a dit : "D'accord, laisse-moi d'abord aller vers un arbre." »
Ils ont dit : « D’accord. »
Le singe dit : « Vous devez être tous les deux au sol. »
Puis le serpent tomba au sol.
Le singe dit à l'homme : « Tu as un couteau à la main et un serpent est à tes pieds. »
L'homme comprit et tua le serpent.
